Gretna Theatre: Q&A With an Actress and Macaroni Mom

Purchase Tickets for One of Their Remaining Summer Shows

July 23, 2014
Janice Gunnells, a local Macaroni Mom is one of the actors and actresses who take the stage each summer to entertain families as part of Gretna Theate's Theatre for Young Audiences series.

Janice has theatre and acting experience in both New York City and Los Angeles, and has resided in Lebanon for the past 3+ years. Janice lives with her husband Scott and 5-year-old daughter Alexis.

This year, Janice performed as Mother Goose in the "Lost Rhyme of Mother Goose" show at Gretna Theatre last Saturday. This is her second summer at Gretna and she enjoys performing for local families and schools.

Below, she answers some acting questions posed by a few Mini Macaronis.

Q: Do you wear makeup?

Yes, we wear stage makeup. There are so many lights on stage that makeup helps our faces to be seen and sometimes you get to wear silly makeup for a special character, like if you're playing a cat or a clown.

Q: Do you get scared?

We do get nervous going on stage sometimes, and hope that we remember our lines and the songs and where to move on stage.

Q: Do you like to dance or sing?

Yes! I love to sing and dance :) It's fun to pretend that you are a different character who sings and dances!

Q: How did you get that job and can I do it, too?

You have to go to an "audition" and sing and act in front of the directors of the show. If they like you or think they can use you for a part in the show, then you might get cast as one of the roles. Anyone can do it, you just have to try and really practice your singing, acting and dancing. Lessons or theatre camps are a really good way to learn, or just getting involved in community theatre.

Q; What's your favorite costume?

I think the mother goose costume is my favorite :) It is silly and fun. And, a fun character to play!
