Re:Create Arts Initiative Welcomes Artists of All Ages

May 20, 2015
The Re:Create Arts Initiative is a combination of a creative reuse store, community art center, & intimate performance venue located in downtown Lebanon.

A creative reuse center is a place that collects donations of art & craft supplies from the public, then organizes and offers them for sale. This type of store has an impact on many segments of the community. It offers a low-cost resource of supplies for artists, crafters, teachers, parents and organizations. It promotes environmental awareness, recycling, and serves as an outlet for individuals & businesses to discard their unwanted materials in a useful way.

Income from sales at the reuse store will allow the Re:Create Arts Initiative to fund cultural events, including intimate concerts, poetry readings, lectures, film showings, a gallery, an open craft table, classes & outreach programs.

The open craft table provides children and adults the opportunity to pay a nominal fee of $2 to work at the table & use whatever materials are available. The materials provided are traditional items like crayons, markers, paper, paints, and odd things such as short lengths of yarn or ribbon, random game pieces or small pieces of fabric, paper towel rolls, etc.

“The open craft table will be available during normal store hours. It  offers crafters of any age an opportunity to just come in and play,” explains Jandi Goshert, Founder of Re:Create and a native of Lebanon. “There are no set times - show up and stay as long as you like."

Re:Create also offers a variety of events in time for summer, such as writers’ night, stitchers' night, open studio night, drawing for everyone gathering, musical performances, and open stage events. Registration for their classes and events is now available online.

Regular hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are open later during events. You can also keep up with them on facebook.

If that isn’t enough, Re:Create Arts Initiative has made arrangements to share some of its space with Autumn Krouse, proprietor of The Bleecker Street Boutique vintage clothing shop. To what will surely be the delight of countless patrons of her Farmer’s Market stand, Autumn’s swanky & chic inventory will find a new home at Re:Create in her cozy ‘shop within the shop.’

“It is my dream to have a positive impact on my hometown through the arts. Re:Create Arts Initiative has emerged as the best way for me to accomplish this mission,” says Goshert, “The amount of support I’ve received for this project so far has been overwhelming. It has only boosted my confidence in the potential success of this idea, and has pushed me to move forward and make this dream a reality.”
