If you have more than one child, you know how car trips can typically go: one child does something to irritate the other and within seconds you have a full-fledged battle raging in the back seat. When I knew we'd have a few road trips coming in August with just me and the kids, I started planning on how I was going to keep my 2-year-old and her 4-year-old brother entertained.
Along came a chance to review the new "Music is Magical" CD from mommy blogger and children's recording artist Ellie Hirsch of Mommy Masters. I was drawn to the idea of original music instead of the repeated nursery rhymes and favorite children's party songs that have long been overplayed in my vehicle.
After just listening to the first song, "Fun in the Tub," my son told me, "Mommy, I like this music." And you know what? I liked it, too!
The 18 songs are all original and many of them focus on common themes for kids, like bathtime, potty training, manners and back to school. I'm already trying to memorize the catchy rhyme of "Cleanup Time" so I can inspire my kids when they don't feel like cleaning up the playroom.
I also enjoyed the fact that within listening to some songs just once or twice, my son was picking up on the chorus and singing along, especially the title track, "Music is Magical."
Ellie's voice and creativity is wonderfully refreshing and the music is a good combination of styles, including reggae, rap and lullaby which had my kids laughing and dancing along.
The true test for me was the next time I asked the kids if they wanted to listen to music and my son asked, "Mommy, can we listen to that new music again?"
If you have Mini Macaronis at home (I would say age 6 and under would be ideal range), then I would suggest you check out "Music is Magical" next time you want to spice up your playlist. The CD retails for $9.99 and is also available at digital stores such as iTunes and Amazon, and online at www.MommyMasters.com.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of "Music is Magical" to facilitate this review. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
