Here's a fun Thanksgiving craft for you and your children to do, and one that uses items that might otherwise be thrown away. And how fun is any craft that uses macaroni!!
Materials:
- Empty, clean, and dry water bottles (we used the small 11 oz. bottles, but you could also use baby food jars or any other turkey shaped jar).
- Uncooked macaroni or other pasta (we used some pasta that was expired)
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Construction paper (for the beak, wattle, and feathers)
Instructions:
- Clean water bottle and let dry.
- Once the water bottle is dry, your child can fill it up with pasta.
- Put the cap back on the water bottle.
- Have your child add eyes, a beak, and a wattle. If you have different colored or different sized googly eyes, let your child choose what colors and sizes they want to use. Let them also choose what color beak they'd like for their one-of-a-kind turkey.
- Glue the eyes, beak, and wattle to the turkeys and let dry.
- Cut out or have your children cut out feathers using construction paper. For older children, you can start a pattern and have children finish the pattern. Our feathers are in a pattern: red, yellow, orange, red, yellow orange. You can also trace your child's hand, cut it out, and use their handprint as feathers.
Once dry, these water bottle turkeys can be used for a centerpiece, or with the macaroni inside of them, they would make really cute turkey instruments.
