It's been a busy year for our family, so in celebration of my husband's new job and our seventh wedding anniversary, we decided to plan a long overdue, kid-free weekend away. We're both wine lovers, but have already explored some of the PA wine trails and the Finger Lakes, so we opted to head south to Loudon County, Virginia.
Less than a three-hour drive, right down U.S. 15, Loudon County is a beautiful historic area that includes the city of Leesburg. When it came time to choosing a hotel, nothing compared to the beautiful Lansdowne Resort.
With outdoor pools, a perfectly manicured championship golf course, five on-site restaurants and an incredible spa, I think we could have spent the whole weekend at Lansdowne and considered that our vacation!
From the moment you entered their huge lobby, there was a warm welcome from the concierge and friendly front desk staff to get us checked in. Our room was equally inviting with a king-size bed full of pillows, and even two terry robes hanging in the bathroom.
Once we dropped our bags, we set off to explore Lansdowne and discovered a very relaxing atmosphere. A main floor with several mini living room arrangments.
And more options for sitting and relaxing outside, looking out into the beatiful mountains, and yes, there was even a fire pit that was popular in the evenings.
Sadly we didn't get to enjoy the golf course, spa or the pools, as we spent much of our weekend exploring wineries, antique shops and popular local destinations. But, we learned on our trip about another area not far away with even more incredible wineries, so we may get to enjoy a return visit!
If you find yourself looking for a getaway or family fun - yes, I saw several families with young children throughout our stay - I recommend checking out the Lansdowne Resort. They even have adjoining rooms if you are traveling with a larger group, or if you would like more privacy, be sure to ask for a non-adjoining room.
