PA 4th and 5th Grade Ski Pass Program

Register Your Child to Enjoy Free Skiing This Winter

By Jen Bartos, Macaroni Kid North Huntingdon - Greensburg November 13, 2013
The snow will be flying before we know it and while driving in it is not my favorite thing I am looking forward to snow activities.  Pennsylvania offers 4th and 5th graders the opportunity to learn and ski for FREE (after the $30 application processing fee).

The PSAA (Pennsylvania Ski Area Associations) administers this program. You can find all of the information on their website. While the 4th and 5th grade pass is free, there is a $30 processing fee and it takes 2-3 weeks of processing time for the pass to be mailed to you. You cannot get a pass at any resort!

You will want to get your application in early to take FULL advantage of the program as there are 21 resorts across Pennsylvania that participate. There are blackout dates that apply and your child must ski with a paying adult. They also have a beginner package if you want to learn right along with your child!

With the prospect of a white winter I’m hoping to take full advantage of the program for my 5th grader this year since we were only able to hit the slopes once last year. This is a GREAT age for kids to learn as they are generally not scared and flexible enough. You CAN learn to ski at any age though, I learned later in high school and my brother in law was over 50 when he learned!  And skiing is a GREAT family activity!

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month so watch for more specials and deals coming then!

Some of the surrounding states also offer various kids passport programs, and you can get more information here:

See you on the mountain!
