Review From the Road: Crayola Experience, Easton

July 8, 2015
Just a short drive down Interstate 78 sits the Crayola Experience -- four stories of activities that allow your Mini Macaronis to showcase their creative and artistic talents! My family and I were recently guests of the Crayola Experience and we had a great visit! My son is 7, and my daughter is 5, so they were both old enough to really understand and enjoy the various stations, including crayons, Model Magic, animation and more.

As soon as we entered, Big Blue, the world's largest crayon, greets every visitor and is an awesome photo op!

Moving up to the second floor, we could have spent the whole day here, as it contained two of our favorite attractions -- Wrap It Up and Color Magic. At Wrap It Up, we could choose from a few pre-selected crayon colors, then choose a name and design a label all via touchscreen. Tip: Young children will need help wrapping their crayon since the crayon and label dispense separately.

In Color Magic, you choose a picture and then have fun options that bring it to life. As you can see my son chose a dragon, and then had fun taking selfies with his new creation! A time-saving tip: if you're short on time, focus on only coloring the character and skip the background.

Art Alive is another fun studio atmosphere where they choose a creature and then watch it swim along the ocean scene on a giant screen.

The second floor also is home to the Crayon Factory, a brief live theater show that demonstrates how crayons are made, and each child leaves with a "newborn" crayon. There's also a Toddler Town area, perfect for the littlest ones who just want to have some time to run and play.

When you're ready for lunch, you can stop at the Crayola Cafe on the first floor, or there are numerous local restaurants within easy walking distance. Just make sure to get your hand stamped if you plan to return.

When you enter the third floor, you immediately notice the giant Crayola-inspired playground. A great option if lines are long at the attraction you're waiting for, or to run around before the car trip home! There's also a water-play area in tribute to the canal museum that used to share this building. This brings up a great point in that your family should wear play clothes when you visit. While the staff does a tremendous job trying to keep everything clean, kids are kids, and marker or paint could easily end up on clothing!

Finally, the top floor of the Crayola Experience has a spin-art area, a space to paint with melted crayon wax, and Melt and Mold. Here, you can choose to create a fun keepsake like the crayon and dinosaur pictured below.

No trip to the Crayola Experience would be complete without a trip to the Crayola Store, located on the first floor. If you think of a Crayola product, you're likely to find it here!

Learn more about the fun your family can have at the Crayola Experience by visiting their website at www.crayolaexperience.com/easton. They suggest at least 3-4 hours to fully enjoy all they have to offer, but if you want to do it all, then allow yourself a full day. Their hours vary throughout the year, and admission prices are $18.99 for adults and children. You can save money by purchasing tickets online, or watch for discount coupons at various locations or via fundraiser books. Annual passes are available for $29.99 if you would want to visit more than once.
