Make An Apple Butterfly!

By Melinda Lodge Willis, Publisher Mom, Salem, NJ September 12, 2012

Fall is soon here and several local orchards (Sycamore Spring and Grays Apple Ridge) invite you to Pick Your Own Apples. Besides eating them and baking with them, here is a fun craft you can do with them!

This craft is great to do with your toddlers or other little ones! My 2-year-old was able to-help me paint the apples to make the butterfly, and of course make her own version of the butterflies as well! They didn’t look much like butterflies…but she had a great time!

Directions:

Cut one apple in half.

You can either ‘paint’ the inside/cut side of the apple with colors of your choice, or simply pour out the paint on a paper plate and place the cut side of the apple directly in the paint. Either way, make sure the paint is covering the whole side of the apple so that you can make a nice clear butterfly ‘stamp’.

Add antennae or anything else that you’d like, to make your butterfly take flight!
