So when local mom Lucy Joffy asked me to share her new children's book with all of you wonderful Macaroni families, I was happy to help!
Inspired by her favorite book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Jellymanium shares the story of Egbert and 99 other children who take a wild ride through a jelly-filled pipe to land in the Jellymanium factory. The children compete against each other to tour the factory and create a wonderful new flavor.
"As a child, I was captivated when Charlie found the golden ticket that allowed him to discover the secrets of the fascinating factory," said Lucy. "When my own son was equally enchanted by the novel, it inspired me to write Jellymanium, a children’s chapter book about one boy’s trip to a magical jelly factory and the amazing adventure that could make him the most popular boy in school."
Lucy recommends Jellymanium for children age 7-10 or advanced 6-year-old readers.
Lucy, who is originally from Australia, said she was not always a writer. She was a scientist and first moved to the U.S. to continue her research. That's when she met her husband and had her first child.
"It was only after the birth of my second son, that I discovered I loved to write," she said. "I would write whenever I had a spare moment, but usually I would work on my books after the kids had gone to sleep for the night.
"My third son was born after we moved to Pennsylvania and the magical jelly factory, and its quirky president -- a jelly creature named Agarfunkle -- were most likely the result of the sleep deprivation that comes with having a newborn," she added.
