The Gretna Gritty 5k Mud Run and Walk-A-Thon is set on 200 acres of beautiful rolling hills at Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center in Lebanon, PA. The second annual event will be held on May 10, 2014.
The Gretna Gritty will be filled with over 15 obstacles and challenges like mud pits, fire jumps, log climbs, monkey bars, and team walls. The Gretna Gritty is unique from other mud runs because we are able to build our course on our private wooded trail system which boasts naturally challenging terrain. Our site gives us the opportunity to build obstacles that can’t be replicated just anywhere, as we benefit from our native environment.
Participants come from far and wide in search of adventure, and they are not disappointed – or clean – when they leave the Gretna Gritty. This professionally chip-timed run for competitive and non-competitive runners will include prizes for the competitive runners, as well as some fun prizes for best costume, highest fundraiser, and so on.
The Walk-A-Thon course is beside the Gretna Gritty trail and provides a great opportunity for fundraisers to stay both active and clean. Anyone from age 12-112 is invited to register for either event.
New this year, we’re also hosting a Nitty Gritty, a 1-mile fun run with some muddy, kid-friendly obstacles for children ages 5-11. For details and timing on all of the day’s events, please visit our website at www.gretnaglen.org/gritty.
How and why does a camp & retreat center decide to dedicate time and resources to do a mud run the likes of Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder, and Spartan Race?
Two years ago Jeff Iceman, a camp volunteer, approached us with the idea of hosting a mud run as a camp fundraiser. In 2013, we celebrated, with great success, our first event of this type and surpassed our fundraising goal of $25,000.
Monies raised, after direct expenses will go to our “Pathways to the Future” finance initiative. Our total fundraising goal is $691,000 of which $215,961 has been raised from multiple concerted efforts, including the Gritty. Our prayer is that the Gretna Gritty will continue to be engaging for our community and profoundly impactful to our campers for years to come!
This year, our goal is to have at least 600 runners, raise $75,000 and host an event that will reach out to our community in a healthy, fun way while preparing for the future of our campers. Every participant will be given the opportunity to raise additional funds to support this worthwhile cause. This fundraising initiative will help us maintain our ministry in a way that children, youth and adults will have this sacred place set aside for God’s work for the long-term future.
As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, the registration fee and fundraising donations are tax deductible. Sign up today, space is limited. Let some of last year's participants tell you why you should give the Gretna Gritty a go!
